SS Philip & James Crafting Group provides an excellent opportunity to get to know and become involved with others in the parish. It is comprised of a group of people who want to enjoy each other’s friendship while teaching and/or learning crafting skills from others in the group. If you have ever wanted to learn how to knit or crochet, this is the group for you. Many of the members had never knitted or crocheted until the group began. Currently the group meets every other Wednesday evening; however, there are members of the group, unable to attend, who stay connected and assist. It has provided for various ongoing projects such as knitting and crocheting hats, blankets, and prayer squares for the various hospitals and nursing homes in the area, assisting with items for the school’s Santa’s Workshop, and Canal Fulton’s Community Christmas needs. Please consider joining by emailing her at [email protected].
Our Story…..
Our group came together as a result of the parish's small group initiative, so we have been meeting for a little over a year. We are an eclectic group of experienced and (mostly) inexperienced knitters and crocheters. Parishioner Regina Roach is our patient leader and teacher. We started out learning the basics, progressing from dishcloths to baby hats. Under Regina's guidance we undertook a service project, “Click Purple for Babies”, an awareness campaign about Shaken Baby Syndrome, in which we knitted/crocheted (with a lot of help from other parish and community friends) more than 350 purple baby hats to be distributed during the month of November to Mercy Medical and Aultman Hospitals.
We have now progressed to individual projects, making gloves, socks, sweaters, and scarves. But it is not just about the knitting and crocheting. It's about the fun and friendship that we share at our meetings and social events and the common bond of our Catholic faith.
When we meet…..
Two times a month on Tuesdays at noon at the Canal Fulton Library.
Our invitation…..
The group is open to all women of the parish. Don't know how to knit? Not a problem! Most of us didn't when we started! Come and learn!
